Position Details:
Position Name: Finance Associate
Location: New York, New York and Stamford, CT.
Reports to: Senior management of the Finance organization (eg. Assistant Controller level)

Asset Management firm is a global private asset management firm managing the assets of its founder, and employees. It focuses primarily on discretionary long/short equity investing and makes significant quantitative and macro investments. The firm is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, and maintains offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Boston and New York.
About the Function/Department:
The Finance team is comprised of approximately 60 individuals who support all financial functions of the asset management firm. The functions include Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Financial Analysis, Investor services and Portfolio Manager Compensation. The Finance management team is looking to add a versatile team player to the group who will have exposure to several departments within the group. The plan is that the individual would spend 6-12 months working in several Finance groups (with an emphasis in accounting) in order to maximize the initial learning experience. Then the individual would be placed into a permanent position within the Finance department.
This role is ideally suited for an individual that likes a fast pace environment and is looking to broaden their skill set at an accelerated pace. This role is ideal for an individual who wants to expand their knowledge of the hedge fund space as the individual will have exposure to both the Fund and the Management company vehicles. The individual will have significant exposure to the senior finance team and will be able to learn from seasoned hedge fund professionals.
We are looking for an individual with an accounting background as the initial role will be in the accounting areas but could evolve into non accounting areas such as Financial Analysis or Compensation.
Responsibilities of the initial role will include the following:
- Participate in the compilation of the owners & senior managers monthly financial package.
- Report covenants to large bank counterparties
- Be involved with the tax process for the founder / owner
- Prepare and review annual, semi-annual and quarterly financial statements as required
- Be involved in the compensation process including calculating and reviewing compensation packages to the Firm’s portfolio teams.
- Work with the outside auditors on complex accounting topics during the audit.
- Prepare and review information for regulators
- Assist with month-end close process
- Assist with month-end investor risk reports
- Research and provide technical accounting guidance on new accounting standards
- Lead projects that will improve the firm’s financial reporting process and accounting process
- Identify errors or problems and independently investigate; recommend solutions to team members or supervisors
Job Requirements:
- CPA
- Big 4 managerial experience
- 2-5 years of public accounting experience, preferable in Alternatives or alternatively Banking and Capital Markets
- GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Project management experience or strong supervisory experience
- Experienced with financial statement preparation and consolidation process
- Experience working with external accountants and the annual audit process
- Candidate must have the ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced and demanding environment.
